Which Teams Have The Odds At The End Of The Championship?

Another exciting season in the Championship League comes to an end on Saturday with all 24 clubs on the game schedule.  The final game of the season will decide which teams are promoted to the Premier League, which teams compete in the Championship playoffs, and which teams will be relegated down to League One.

The one sure bet for promotion is Watford as the team currently sits at the top of the league table with 88 points.  The Hornets won five of their six games in April, which allowed their side to climb above Bournemouth and Middlesbrough and take the summit.  Watford is a full four points clear of the third seeded Boro, which guarantees their side’s promotion at the end of the season.

Bournemouth trails the Hornets by one point, and is scheduled to play their final game of the season against Charlton.  The Cherries have been one of the most consistent squads in the Championship, having not lost a game since February 25th against Nottingham.  If Bournemouth scores one final win to end their season, they will join Watford in the Premier League next year.

Middlesbrough spent the better part of the season at the summit, an accomplishment boasted by only 12 losses throughout the season.  However, the resurgent run at Watford and resilient strength at Bournemouth knocked the Boro off the top spot.

Middlesbrough is the only team that can challenge for an automatic promotion to the Premier League.  The squad trails Bournemouth by 3 points, and can earn automatic promotion by beating Brighton at home on Saturday, as well as betting that Charlton upsets Bournemouth.

As for relegation to League One, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic are both guaranteed to play in the lower division next season.  Millwall is currently seeded in the final relegation position, but the Lions can survive another year in the Championship with a win over Wolverhampton.  However, Rotherham must also lose to Leeds.

It’s been an exciting season in the Championship but it all comes to an end on Saturday.  Which teams will survive another year, and who is doomed to play in a lower tier?  Tune in on the weekend to find out.
