Will Neymar Be Back For The World Cup Final?
When Brazil defeated Colombia to advance to the World Cup semifinals, the victory was not without its price. The team’s top striker and fan favourite Neymar went down in the second half with what appeared to be a serious injury, requiring team doctors to carry the 22 year old off the pitch.
Following the game, doctors confirmed that Neymar suffered a lower spine injury during the collision with Juan Camilo Zúñiga. After the extent of the injury was revealed, Brazil stated that Neymar will not be part of the team for the match against Germany on Tuesday.
However, media reports in Brazil are speculating that Neymar is working with team doctors to undergo painkilling injections during the next week. The injections would allegedly alleviate the pain the cracked lower vertebrae, and could potentially allow Neymar to return to the pitch for the World Cup final if Brazil advances past Germany.
The reports suggest the injury was struck in the best possible place for damages to the lower spine, and that aggressive therapy could take some of the tension off the injury in a short time. The reporters agree that there is no chance Neymar could play in the game against Germany, but speculate that the therapy could work fast enough for the striker to play in the final on July 13.
But Brazil’s team doctor Joseph Luiz Runco is ruling out Neymar’s participation in the game against Germany as well as the championship match should the team qualify for the final.
“No chance of him playing the final of the World Cup. He can be with the group, yes, but no chance on the field. No way.”
With Neymar’s absence, Brazil will be missing their top goal scorer that could leave the team at a serious disadvantage against Germany’s aggressive offense.
