Eagles Look Easy Pickings for Mourinho’s Manchester United
Over to you Manchester United. With Arsenal and Chelsea both losing, the Red Devils have been handed a big chance to cement their place in the top four of the Premier League.
Securing a place in the top four is not what the club had in mind at the start of the season, but with Manchester City waltzing away with the title it is the reality they are left with.
The Red Devils travel to Crystal Palace on Monday night knowing that a win would move them nine points clear of fifth place Chelsea – and also back into second in the table with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur as buffers.
Titles are what’s important to a club of the stature of United, and manager Jose Mourinho will be under pressure to deliver a challenge net season, but he is aware of the value of securing a place in the top four.
“First of all, the gap is a very short gap – six points between the second and the fifth teams is really short and really open for everybody,” he said at a press conference on Sunday. “I would say four very good teams and one will be out of the Champions League.”
United are hot favourites to get the win, with 188BET chalking them up at 1.51. Palace cane backed at 6.60 and the draw 4.35.
It’s easy to see why United are such hot favourites, given Palace’s awful run of form. The Eagles have taken just two points from their last five games and find themselves in the bottom three in the table.
Wilfried Zaha’s return from injury can’t come soon enough for Palace, but unfortunately for the Eagles he won’t be fit to face Mourinho’s United.
Without Zaha, Palace lack an X Factor and it could be that they are picked apart by Mourinho’s Red Devils.
If things weren’t bad enough for Roy Hodgson’s Eagles, the stats make for grim reading. The two sides have met on 17 previous occasions in the Premier League and Palace are without a win in any of them – and with only five goals to their name.
United have a vice-like grip on this fixture and with a place in the top four to secure, Mourinho will impress upon his players the need to stay focused and avoid any lapses against a vastly inferior side.
Alexis Sanchez has not had the greatest start to life at Old Trafford, but he was on target twice at Selhurst Park for Arsenal earlier in the season and the Chilean can draw on that for confidence. 188BET have him priced up at 5.00 to net the opening goal of the match.
Injury Not Ideal, but Break Could be a blessing for Harry Kane and England
Silence the alarms; turn off the sirens, Harry Kane is okay. There’s unlikely to be an admission any time soon, but England manager Gareth Southgate is probably smiling inside about the injury to Kane following confirmation that it’s only likely […]
