Can Anyone Stop Harry Kane in Golden Boot Race?
With the Premier League title Manchester City’s for the taking barring some starling collapse from the boys in light blue, it’s worth taking a look at some of the other markets.
One that catches the eye is the Premier League’s top scorer race. It’s no surprise Harry Kane is the favourite – 188BET have him chalked up at 1.50 – as the Tottenham Hotspur man has landed the Golden Boot for the past couple of seasons.
Apart from his usual barren August, Kane has been in consistent goalscoring form and has 18 goals to his name in the Premier League. Given the consistency Kane shows in front of goal, and that his attacking cohort Dele Alli tends to show his best form in the second half of the season, the prospect of Kane making off with the prize for a third year in a row is sound.
However, at 1.50 the odds are a shade on the skinny side and there are grounds for looking at a couple of other options.
The first port of call is Sergio Aguero. For one of the best strikers in world football, he does not get the recognition he deserves. Over his previous six seasons with City, Aguero’s goals record has been 23, 12, 17, 26, 24 and 20 – winning the Golden Boot in 14/15. Despite those numbers, he’s never been named in the PFA Team of the Season. That’s quite something for a player who has scored one of the most iconic goals in the Premier League history, and has helped City to the title on two occasions – with a third surely on the way.
This term, Aguero has 13 goals to his name and has ground to make up on Kane. It looks a tall order, but City are without Gabriel Jesus on account of a knee injury – leaving the Argentina superstar as Pep Guardiola’s only recognised striker.
Aguero will start in the Premier League if fit, he does not miss too many games, and with the amount of chances that City create he will get his share of goals.
The one caveat is if City bring in a support act – Alexis Sanchez of Arsenal is in the frame – but on the assumption that they do not, at 6.00 with 188BET there are grounds for thinking Aguero could run Kane close.
The only other feasible option is Mohamed Salah of Liverpool. He’s one goal behind Kane after a brilliant start to the season and is second best in the market with 188BET at 5.00.
Liverpool fans will hope Salah can continue his brilliant run of form, but the departure of Philippe Coutinho could hurt his supply line.
